Scholars who need after school extra help who attend St. Joseph, D.C. Reeves, Ponchatoula Junior High, and Perrin Elementary, (with a current teacher’s recommendation) may be eligible to attend a special after-school program to be headed by longtime popular local educator May Stilley. Tuition is said to be $100 per semester. There are 60 slots to fill, it was announced at Monday’s Ponchatoula City Council meeting.

Ponchatoula has passed an ordinance outlawing the carrying and the discharge of deadly weapons on local properties including schools, municipal buildings, parks, buses, and playgrounds.
The city council amended its ordinance restricting the use of city-owned vehicles to 30-mile round trips to accommodate members of the Ponchatoula Police Department, who Police Chief Bry Layrisson reminds the city council, are on-call 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.
