For several years The City of Ponchatoula has been working towards developing a community after-school program for Ponchatoula school children. We are happy to announce that in September 2017 we opened the doors of the Ponchatoula Student Outreach Program. The program is housed in the Ponchatoula Community Center from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 pm, Monday – Thursday. Students are provided with a healthy meal, get help with school projects and homework from certified teachers, participate in computer enrichment programs and learn the responsibility of giving back to the community in which they live and play.
On October 26, 2017 Ponchatoula Student Outreach will join with more than 8,000 nationwide events for Lights On Afterschool. This national event is an important opportunity to recognize all that afterschool programs do for children, families and communities.
We invite you to attend our Lights On Afterschool celebration on October 26, 2017 from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at the Ponchatoula Community Center. The public is invited. Through this event we will highlight the important role that afterschool programs play in keeping Ponchatoula’s youth safe, engaged and prepared to be successful adults.
The event will begin with a welcome message from Mayor Bob Zabbia and continue with our Guest Speaker, Louisiana’s First Lady, Donna Edwards. Following will be Ponchatoula Student Outreach Director, May Stilley, who will provide a tour of the facility to showcase our tutoring program and student community projects. A jambalaya dinner will be served after the tour.
We are proud of the Ponchatoula Student Outreach program and believe your readers would enjoy learning more about the investment that is being made in the youth of Ponchatoula.
